Run Alone

Your first parkrun, alone

A calm, honest walkthrough: before, during and after. Free, every Saturday, any speed.

Before

  1. Register once at the parkrun site of your country (free). Save the barcode on your phone or print it.
  2. Pick the event from your city page and read its page: start time, exact meeting point, toilets, café.
  3. Wear what you have. Nobody dresses up. Bring water and a light layer for after.

On the morning

  1. Arrive 10–15 minutes early. Find a volunteer in a hi-vis vest and say “first time”. They point you to the first-timers briefing.
  2. Stand where you like; slower runners and walkers usually start at the back. Nobody will be behind the tail walker.
  3. Finish, take a token, scan it with your barcode. Then stay five minutes — that is where conversations start.

After

  1. Your result arrives by email or app within hours. Come back next Saturday; faces repeat and that is how people get to know you.
  2. If you liked it, volunteer once — it is the fastest way to be known by name.

parkrun: free, timed 5 km every Saturday morning (usually 9:00, check the event page), register once online and bring your barcode. Walking is fine. Volunteers at the start answer first-timer questions.

Questions people ask

Can I walk a parkrun?

Yes. Every parkrun has a tail walker who finishes last, so walkers are expected and never alone at the back.

Do I need to register?

Once, for free, on the parkrun website of the country. Print or save your barcode; without it you still run, you just don’t get a time.

Is it awkward to come alone?

No — most people do. Volunteers run a first-timers briefing before the start, and the café afterwards is the social part.

How accurate is this list?

Event locations come from the public parkrun events list and clubs are checked by hand with a date. Always confirm the time on the event page before you go.
