parkrun: free, timed 5 km every Saturday morning (usually 9:00, check the event page), register once online and bring your barcode. Walking is fine. Volunteers at the start answer first-timer questions.
Beginner-friendly clubs
Our research team is verifying clubs for this city. For now: parkrun and the events above are the safest bet for a first solo run.
Going alone — what to expect
- At parkrun nobody runs “with” anyone by default: hundreds of people arrive alone, run or walk, and chat at the finish or at the café after.
- Say “it’s my first time” to anyone in a hi-vis vest. The first-timers briefing is for you.
- Pace is irrelevant. A tail walker finishes last on purpose so nobody is ever last.
